Paul R. Ahr, Ph.D., M.P.A., M.A. is a clinical, organizational and intercultural psychologist with a wide range of experiences including working both as a clinician and as a senior executive in public, for-profit and non-profit sector treatment, rehabilitation and research settings; as an organizational behavior consultant with individuals, groups, teams, agencies and corporations; working in homelessness, hospital, clinic, correctional and private practice settings with children, adolescents, adults and families; and as an academician and a scientist.

 

 A bit about Dr. Paul Ahr:

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry. Two post-doctoral Master’s degrees: in Public Administration and in International Affairs.

  • For 43 of the past 50 years, maintained a full time or part time practice of psychology with adults, families, adolescents and children with an enhanced focus over the past 35 years on executive coaching, personal goal attainment and staff development.

  • Former CEO of a 12,500 employee public agency, a 125 employee non-profit agency, two behavioral health research centers and responsible for the licensure/certification of behavioral health treatment/rehabilitation organizations in 3 States.

  • Founded and operated a multi-city practice of clinical psychology and organizational behavior that has assisted over 150 major corporations, health systems, hospitals and health and mental disabilities-related organizations, other faith based not-for-profit organizations and public-sector entities.

  • Vietnam-era Veteran having served as a psychologist on Active Duty at the US Naval Hospitals in Bethesda, MD and Oakland, CA, as well as at the Headquarters of the US Marine Corps in Arlington, VA and at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in St. Mary’s County, MD.

  • Licensed as a Psychologist in Florida and Missouri and formerly licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in Virginia, as a Psychologist in Hawaii and as a Marriage, Family and Child Counselor in California.

  • A pioneer (1972) in the use of telemedicine approaches to counseling and consulting and Certified Clinical Telemental Health Provider (CTMH), available for telemental health treatment (in Florida and Missouri) and virtual organizational behavior (including coaching) consulting nationwide.    

  • Held teaching positions at four major universities, and authored and coauthored nine books on a variety of topics as well as three book chapters and more than 30 published articles, reports and papers on professional topics.

  • Expertise as a Life Coach and as an Executive Coach, including advising inpatriate and expatriate executives and their families.

  • Special interest and expertise in working with persons from cultures and backgrounds other than mine, as well as 50+ years of experience in the origins, course and best practices in cases of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), including certification as a Clinical Trauma Professional.

  • Middle of five sons – a birth order position that provided the opportunity to observe the actions of older and younger siblings – and to master interpersonal skills needed to succeed through attention to others, collaboration and compromise.

  • Married with two adult sons, two adult stepdaughters, two young adult grandsons and a Yorkie dog.
